I didn’t set out to paint a hydrangea.
A certain color combination, brush stroke and form made me think of my favorite flower one day. Hydrangeas love sandy soil and are indigenous to coastal areas, making them an integral part of the landscape that inspires me.
The Hydrangea Series has grown steadily. Every piece I paint is different, as I continue to experiment with color and form, texture and size. The appeal has been explosive, but not surprising, as they are reminiscent of summer living, lazy days at the beach and entertaining on the veranda. My version of the classic flower and coastal living is abstract, with a hint of the traditional.
